Oral Surgery on Decatur Square

Extractions, wisdom tooth removal, and bone grafting, planned in one office

At Higher Standards Dental Studio, Dr. Rickin Vibhakar provides tooth extractions, wisdom tooth removal, and bone grafting on Decatur Square. Oral surgery is one part of our restorative dental care in Decatur, so your procedure and next steps are planned in one office.

Having surgery where you get your regular dental care means fewer referrals and fewer new faces. Planning starts with 3D CBCT imaging and digital X-rays, which show the shape of each root, your jawbone density, and nearby nerves, so Dr. Vibhakar can choose the gentlest approach.

Oral surgery treatments in Decatur

Saving a natural tooth is our first goal. When a tooth cannot be repaired, these are the procedures Dr. Vibhakar performs.

Damaged teeth

Tooth extractions

Simple and surgical extractions for teeth that are too damaged to keep. Learn more about tooth extraction and bone grafting.

Third molars

Wisdom tooth removal

Impacted or partly erupted wisdom teeth can cause pain and swelling. Learn more about wisdom teeth removal.

Rebuilding bone

Bone grafting

A graft can rebuild thin bone so a tooth can be replaced with dental implants in Decatur.

When Is a Tooth Extraction Needed?

We save the tooth first and extract only when it cannot be repaired

Dr. Vibhakar may recommend an extraction for reasons such as these.

Severe decay

Too little tooth remains for a filling or crown.

Deep cracks

A fracture below the gumline often can’t be sealed.

Advanced gum disease

Bone loss can leave a tooth too loose to keep.

Problem wisdom teeth

Impacted or partly erupted wisdom teeth can cause pain and swelling.

Ongoing infection

An abscess may require removal if other care can’t clear it.

Saving it first

If the tooth can be saved, he explains that option first. Root canal treatment in Decatur can often keep a damaged tooth in place.

Simple or Surgical?

A simple extraction removes a visible tooth; a surgical one reaches below the gums

Simple extraction

Used for: A tooth visible above the gums
Recovery: Many people feel normal within a few days

Surgical extraction

Used for: Teeth broken at the gumline, or wisdom teeth still under the gums
Stitches: May involve a few
Recovery: Surgical sites may take a week or two

What to Expect

You know your diagnosis, options, and recovery before surgery

Mild swelling and soreness often ease with ice, rest, and over-the-counter pain relievers, and soft foods are easiest early on.

1
Plan

Imaging and options

3D CBCT imaging and digital X-rays guide the plan, and Dr. Vibhakar explains your diagnosis and options in plain language.

2
Procedure

Numb and comfortable

Local anesthesia numbs the area first. Our team checks in with you often, and you can ask for a break at any time.

3
Recovery

Protect the clot

For the first few days, avoid smoking, straws, and hard spitting, and plan a replacement early to protect your bite.

Your extraction, graft, and replacement are planned by one dentist

Dr. Rickin Vibhakar has more than 10 years of clinical experience, including private practice at 60th and Park in Manhattan. He completed advanced implant training at the NY Implant Institute and trained in guided bone regeneration with Dr. Matt Fein and Dr. Israel Puterman. If the bone is too thin for an implant, he may recommend bone grafting, either when the tooth is removed or at a later visit, and our prosthodontic care provides the bridge or implant crown that completes the restoration.

Local anesthesia numbs the area first, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain. Nitrous oxide, weighted blankets, and noise-canceling headphones can help you relax.

Do I need a referral for oral surgery?

Our team can tell you whether your insurance plan requires a referral for oral surgery. If another dentist took recent X-rays, feel free to bring them along.

Dr. Vibhakar performs simple and surgical extractions, wisdom tooth removal, and bone grafting. He also places dental implants as part of a full tooth replacement plan.

Some swelling and light bleeding are normal for a day or two. If pain gets worse after a few days, or you notice a bad taste or fever, reach out right away. Our emergency dental team can help with problems that come up after surgery.

Protect the blood clot that forms in the socket. For the first few days, avoid smoking, straws, and hard spitting.

Good candidates usually have healthy gums and enough jawbone to hold an implant, or can rebuild bone with a graft. Our team can also check your dental insurance benefits and explain financing options.
